Volunteer Ambulance Squad

Ten teams made up of JIF board members and volunteers from the John’s Island community are now visiting 26 agencies to evaluate their requests of more than $800,000 to fund various capital projects. Some of the requests include: classroom furniture, and equipment, passenger vehicles and trucks, sports and fitness equipment, kitchen renovation and building repairs. The JIF teams have the difficult but very interesting job of sorting through all the legitimate requests for aid to identify those projects most deserving of our help. Along the way, team members gain first-hand knowledge of the needs of our surrounding communities. Please consider volunteering for one of these teams next year.

Two Unique Charitable Funders

Restoration House

The John’s Island Foundation is unique in that we provide funding to charitable agencies in Indian River County specifically for their capital needs: housing, cars and trucks, air conditioning, farm equipment, etc. We do not compete with the good work of the John’s Island Community Service League; instead, we complement their providing operating funds for many of the same agencies.

One of the agencies supported by the John’s Island Foundation is Restoration House. We provided funds for a van to transport clients to and from their facility. Clients come to Restoration House, broken, addicted, with no income and no hope.  When they leave, the men and women are able to return to their roles as parents (caring for their own children), they are employed and have budgeted and saved money, they have satisfied their judicial obligations, and they return to the community as productive citizens.

Leadership Circle

leadership-circleBeginning this year, The John’s Island Foundation has established a new category for giving designated the Leadership Circle, which gives special recognition to donors who have shown extraordinary generosity over the previous 12 months:

Leadership Circle Platinum with a gift of $15,000 or over

Leadership Circle Gold with a minimum gift of $10,000

Leadership Circle Silver with a minimum gift of $5,000

The Foundation will recognize the Leadership Circle members in our annual report and celebrate this elite group at an exclusive cocktail party.

2015 2016 Officers Announced

The John’s Island Foundation is proud to announce new officers for the 2015/16 season. Each of these board members brings substantial experience and proven commitment to the Executive Committee.

Jim Johnson, President
Jim Poole, Vice President
Ken Wessel, Development Chairman
Carole Parks, Secretary
Art Scutro, Treasurer
Jay Anglada, Grants Chairman

Many thanks to the preceding officers for their hard work and accomplishments over the past two years.

Since 1999, the John’s Island Foundation has given over $8.4 million for the capital needs of charitable agencies in Indian River County. This year we have 26 agencies requesting funding which totals over $800,000. These requests include: renovations on two group homes for the ARC of IRC; a complete kitchen renovation for Restoration Ministries women’s shelter; and, a commercial air conditioning unit for the Homeless Family Center.

The John’s Island Foundation is unique. We raise funds solely through your donations. We do not sell tickets for events, nor do we raise revenues from parties or benefits. Please consider supporting the Foundation through which many well vetted and deserving agencies are served.
